Visas & entry
Hawaiʻi follows United States entry rules. U.S. citizens do not need a passport for domestic arrival; many Visa Waiver Program travelers need an approved ESTA, while other nationalities may need a U.S. visitor visa. Verify current requirements with U.S. authorities before booking.
Getting in
Getting around
There are no road links between the main islands; use short interisland flights, not ferries, and treat each transfer as a half-day once airport time and car logistics are included. Waikīkī is the exception where transit, walking and occasional rental days work well; elsewhere a rental car is usually the practical choice. Do not underestimate road time: Kauaʻi's mountainous interior cannot be looped by road, the Road to Hāna is an all-day undertaking, and Kona-to-Hilo is roughly 1 hour 35 minutes in normal conditions before stops or closures.
Money
Use U.S. dollars. Cards are widely accepted, but carry a little cash for small purchases and tips; tipping is expected in the U.S. service economy. Factor accommodation taxes, resort fees, parking and fuel into card-budget calculations rather than relying on the room rate alone.
