First visit? Stay in Queenstown Town Centre & Bay.
For a first Queenstown stay, the central lakefront removes the most friction: you can walk to the principal activity operators, Queenstown Bay, the gondola area, restaurants, bars and the main bus interchange. It costs more and can be noisy, but for a short first visit the convenience usually outweighs both.

Avoid sleeping near The late-night bar blocks of Queenstown Town Centre, Far-out addresses marketed simply as “Queenstown”, Jacks Point or Kelvin Heights without a rental car, Gibbston Valley for a first two- or three-night Queenstown visit. They are unbeatable for access but poor for light sleepers: crowd noise and late returns can continue well after dinner.
