Château Margaux is worth seeking out for its exceptional First Growth architecture and vineyard setting, but it works only if you secure a written weekday appointment—or are happy with a public-road exterior view. Do not treat it as a walk-in winery, tasting room, or ticketed château tour.
Request access before planning your day
Submit the official “Visiter la propriété” request with dates, group size, language and mobility needs, then wait for a direct confirmation; a submitted form is not a reservation.
MorePlan for no casual tasting
Cellar visits are appointment-only, while tastings are reserved for wine professionals, with no public ticket price or walk-up product published.
MoreAvoid weekends, August and harvest
Visits are only possible Monday through Friday by appointment and are closed on weekends, public holidays, throughout August and during the unannounced harvest period.
MoreUse confirmation-provided arrival directions
The estate publishes no public visitor gate or parking instructions, so appointment holders should follow their written directions; everyone else should remain on public roads for exterior views.
MoreChâteau Margaux is a working First Growth Médoc wine estate in Margaux-Cantenac, one of the original Premier Grand Cru Classé properties in Bordeaux’s 1855 classification. Its roughly 265-hectare historic estate includes about 100 hectares of vines; the neo-Palladian château was built between 1805 and 1815, while a Norman Foster-designed winery opened in 2015. Privately owned by the Mentzelopoulos family since 1977, it produces Château Margaux, Pavillon Rouge, Margaux du Château Margaux and Pavillon Blanc rather than operating as a conventional public museum or tasting-room attraction.
For serious Bordeaux wine enthusiasts and architecture-minded travelers, this is one of the Médoc’s most consequential and photogenic estates, combining an 1855 First Growth legacy, a classical façade, historic cellars and contemporary winery design. It is worth pursuing only if you can secure a prior appointment or are content with a public-road exterior view; skip it as the centerpiece of a day if you need a dependable book-online tour, casual tasting, lunch or guaranteed entry. Visits require advance arrangement, and tastings are reserved for wine professionals.
Before you go
No. Château Margaux has no walk-up visitor product or public ticket counter. Cellar visits are by advance appointment only, Monday to Friday; a submitted request is not a booking until the estate directly confirms it. Before committing to a Médoc day, use the official visit-contact form, choose “Visiter la propriété,” and give your preferred dates, group size, language and any mobility requirements. Keep alternate weekday dates available and wait for written confirmation and arrival instructions. Do not buy a third-party Médoc tour assuming it grants estate entry; many only stop for exterior photos. Source: https://chateau-margaux.com/nos-experiences/visite-contact

Do not plan on one. The estate states that tastings are reserved for wine professionals and does not publish a consumer tasting, walk-in tasting room, flight list or retail-counter service. Source: https://chateau-margaux.com/nos-experiences/visite-contact
The official information describes potential cellar visits by appointment, but does not promise a standard itinerary, château interior access, garden access, tasting, duration, language schedule or group size.
